What is the ACT?
The ACT is a college admissions test required for many colleges and universities in the United Sates. The ACT multiple-choice tests are curriculum based. The ACT presents questions directly related to what you have learned in your high school courses in English, mathematics, reading, and science. In addition to the tests, the ACT also provides students with a unique Interest Inventory that provides valuable information for career and educational planning and a Student Profile Section that provides a comprehensive profile of your work in high school and your future plans.
What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?
The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more a critical reasoning test. Traditionally, the ACT was accepted by more colleges in the Midwest and West Coast while the SAT was accepted by more colleges on the East Coast, however more colleges in all geographic locations in the United States will take either the ACT or the SAT as part of the college admissions package. The ACT sections include: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT sections include: Critical Reasoning, Mathematics, Writing and a required essay.
How long is the ACT test?
The ACT is a 3 hour 35 minute test. The English section includes 75 questions and is 45 minutes. The Mathematics section is 60 questions and 60 minutes long. The reading section is 40 questions and 35 minutes long. The Science section is 40 questions and 35 minutes long. The optional essay is 30 minutes long. >
